The Lion Foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees made up of representatives from across New Zealand. These Trustees oversee the strategic direction of the organisation as well as assessing the National Grant applications we receive. The Chairs from each of the four Regional Grants Committee’s sit on the National Board.
Simon was appointed Chairman of the Board in October 2013 after almost 10 years as Trustee of The Lion Foundation. Originally a commercial lawyer with large law firms in both New Zealand and London, Simon later moved into senior corporate positions in the tourism, gaming and infrastructure sectors including Enerco New Zealand, SkyCity, UnitedNetworks and SKF New Zealand. He is currently Chair of Child Fund New Zealand limited and Auckland Basketball Services Limited. Simon is a Syndicate Chair with the CEO Institute and a Director of The Coaching Collective Limited, Smartfuel New Zealand and several private companies.
Murray became a Trustee of the Perry Foundation in September 2002 and a Lion Foundation Trustee in 2009.
Based in Hamilton Murray runs his own company which includes several professional Directorships and investments across a broad range of industries. Directorships include the Perry Group, Perry Metal protection, Aqualine Products Limited, Bay Venues, Midland Health Network, HTC Limited, Hobeeca and Cleantech NZ. Murray was the Chief Executive of the Perry Group and Sport Waikato for a number of years, represented NZ in athletics for 10 years and played rugby for Waikato. Murray is a trained teacher and also has Post Graduate Business qualifications from Waikato University and attended a Strategic Management course at Harvard University.
As a Hamilton based Trustee of The Lion Foundation, Murray is responsible for Chairing the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Regional Grants Committee.
Sarah was appointed as a Trustee of The Lion Foundation in November 2013. Sarah has extensive business and governance experience in both the private and public sectors and has held key financial and business development roles in a variety of businesses both in New York and New Zealand.
As an independent director Sarah has eighteen years’ experience and currently holds positions as Chair of Ngai Tahu Tourism, Director EcoCentral Ltd, Director SLI Systems Ltd, Director Network Tasman Ltd and Director WhereScape Software Ltd. Sarah is based in Nelson and for many years has also been involved as a trustee for a number of Christchurch based charitable organisations.
Sarah is an Accredited Fellow of the Institute of Directors.
As a South Island based Trustee of The Lion Foundation, Sarah is responsible for Chairing the Southern Regional Grants Committee.
Jackie was appointed as a Trustee of The Lion Foundation in April 2014. Jackie is Deputy Chair of New Zealand Post Group, Chair of the Wellington Museums Trust (trading as Experience Wellington), a Director of Naylor Love Enterprises Ltd and a member of the combined Council of WelTec and Whitireia.
Jackie has an extensive background in human resources, management and leadership. She previously served as global human resources director for the New Zealand Dairy Board and NZMP Fonterra, and subsequently as a consultant and New Zealand country manager for Hewitt Associates and The Gallup Organization. Jackie has a BA and BCom and is a member of Global Women and a Chartered Director of the Institute of Directors.
From August 2014, as a Wellington based Trustee of The Lion Foundation, Jackie assumed responsibility as Chair of the Central Regional Grants Committee.
Originally from Otago, Peter’s career took him to Christchurch, Auckland and Melbourne before he returned to New Zealand and was appointed a Trustee of The Lion Foundation in April 2014.
Peter spent almost 30 years with Lion, beginning as a Sales Executive in Dunedin and holding a number of roles across Sales including Regional Director of the South Island and National Director of Sales based in Auckland, before becoming Managing Director of Lion Beer, Spirits & Wine New Zealand. Peter was then appointed Managing Director of Lion Dairy & Drinks based in Melbourne – a role he held for over 3 years before returning to New Zealand and taking up the role of Group International Director for Lion Corporate.
In 2002 Peter completed the ‘Shaping Strategy’ programme at Mt Eliza Business School in Melbourne, Australia, and in 2003 attended Harvard University in Boston, USA, where he completed the ‘Programme for Management Development’ and was appointed Valedictorian during his time there.
From 2009 to 2011 Peter was on the Board of the New Zealand Business Round Table, and in May this year Peter completed the ‘Making Corporate Boards More Effective’ programme at Harvard University.
Peter has recently been appointed a Director of the New Zealand Rugby Union Board and spreads his time between Auckland & Cromwell.
In 2014, Peter assumed responsibility as Chair of the Northern Regional Grants Committee.
David joined the Lion Foundation Board in July 2014. A co-founding member of DPA Limited, David has been the recipient of many local business awards and was made a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants in 2010 for his service to the community.
David is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors and sits on a number of different boards as both Director and Trustee.
