PLAY IT STRANGE
Musician Mike Chunn is the driving force behind Play it Strange, an initiative set up to help school kids write, play and perform original New Zealand music. A big part of this is Band of Strangers, where budding musicians have a chance to perform real gigs with real Kiwi bands and artists. According to Mike Chunn, “the kids have the night of their lives. And it’s already making a difference: this year we’re working to gain NCEA credits for contemporary song-writing.” So when they needed a hand with funding, the Lion Foundation was keen to play our part. After all, there’s no better way to grow New Zealand’s musical talent.
