SOUTHERN ALPS COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS
It's pretty hard to become the next Cash or Parton when you don't have a backing band. But that was the problem for the organisers of this year's Southern Alps Country Music Awards. These quiet heroes work tirelessly every year: fundraising, organising sponsorship and putting in hours of their own time to get the show underway. And they certainly put on quite a show. Hundreds of performers come from all over the mainland (and even the North Island) to compete. Young, old, soloists, bands, a little bit country or a little bit rock'n'roll, the competition gives performers opportunities they simply wouldn't have otherwise. So when the Committee applied for funding for an essential backing band, The Lion Foundation did what we're here to do. We helped out with a few numbers.
