SURF LIFE SAVING TARANAKI HITS THE ROAD

Sue McMaster, SLS Regional Business Manager says the vehicle means the District can keep costs down and operate in an even more efficient manner.

"The surf life saving season has just kicked off and thanks to the generosity of The Lion Foundation we now have a fabulous new fully operational vehicle. This will support the delivery of our Beach Education programme by helping with the transport of facilitators and equipment."

The resources of Surf Life Saving Taranaki's Beach Education Programme have been boosted with the purchase of a new vehicle in time for the summer season.

The Beach Education programme is open to 5-13 year old children through schools and assists in lowering the numbers who get into difficulty at the beaches. Its unique practical and theory based approach includes learning the role of a Surf Lifeguard, instruction on weather, rips and waves and physical beach and water activities.

Sue adds: "Beach Education is supported and encouraged by local schools and the wider community, and we are very grateful for The Lion Foundation's assistance."

Funds raised through our gaming venues in the region's Breakers Taranaki and Cinema Express Café & Bar made this grant possible.

Surf Life Saving New Zealand acknowledged

The organisation's national body, Surf Life Saving New Zealand, was honoured at the recent Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park events in Auckland and Christchurch as the recipient charity. The Lion Foundation is a proud supporter of both Surf Life Saving New Zealand and the Christmas in the Park events.

Our Chief Executive Phil Holden says The Lion Foundation is proud to support Surf Life Saving, its clubs and members, and the significant community service provided.

"Surf Life Saving fulfils a community need across the country by providing an enjoyable and physical activity for children, as well as teaching them vital information about keeping safe on our beaches."

"It's great to see such a worthwhile organisation benefiting from the generosity of visitors to the Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park events in Auckland and Christchurch."
