EDGECUMBE COLLEGE STUDENTS RECEIVE SPORTING BOOST
Support from the Lion Foundation has assisted with the purchase of a van, and equipment and uniforms for five of the school’s sports teams, including two netball teams and a boys hockey team.
Mrs Mihi Moloney, Edgecumbe College Principal, says this will enable more of the school’s students to participate in sport, encouraging pride and a healthy lifestyle.
“I believe that as a school we provide our students with the best opportunity to play a sport. We have 360 students on our roll, with approximately 150 involved in winter sports, so we are thrilled to give nearly half of our students that opportunity.
“Thanks to the generosity of The Lion Foundation, we are able to purchase a van, providing our students with safe transport to play sport, and new equipment and uniforms which we anticipate will last at least three years. We are extremely grateful for this support.”
Operating for over 20 years and one of the country’s most widely respected charitable trusts, The Lion Foundation is proud to encourage the enjoyment and skill of various sporting activities, by distributing back to the local community the funds raised through its gaming venue at The Plains Hotel, Edgecumbe.
“Kiwis love sport and Edgecumbe College is committed to offering its students a multitude of sporting opportunities, encouraging participation, pride and a healthy lifestyle.”
Mr Holden adds: “The Lion Foundation is proud to support the college and we look forward to hearing how the school teams get on in their various competitions.”
The Lion Foundation funds a wide range of arts, cultural, sporting, educational and health focused causes. This approach has been in place for many years and is designed to ensure the charitable trust’s support reaches as many New Zealand communities as possible.
